In the UK 1 in 7 women are diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime.

With earlier detection, treatment is more successful with a good chance of recovery.

Women aged 50 years to their 71st birthday are invited to breast screening in England.  With the first invitation being within 3 years of your 50th birthday.

Screening is via a mammogram, a video explaining this is shown below.

Whilst screening invitations stop over the age of 71, you can still continue with screening by contacting your local screening unit, infact we would encourage you to continue with these every 3 years.  The local unit can be contacted on 023 81 204959, or via email bsuappts@uhs.nhs.uk

If you are worried about a new breast symptoms, either a new lump, or an area of thickened tissue in a breast, or you notice that your breasts look or feel different from what is normal for you, do not wait to be offered screening. Please book an appointment to be seen by a health care professional.

Please see our page on breast cancer for further information.
