Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of diabetes. It is a disease which occurs when blood glucose, also know as blood sugar is too high. An organ called the pancreas, produces insulin in our bodies. The best way to think of insulin is to think of it being like a key. When we eat a meal, in order to use the sugar from this for energy, insulin is needed. It opens the doors to the cells of the body. It lets the glucose in. Then the glucose can move out of the blood and into the cells where it is needed
In type 2 diabetes your body does not make enough insulin or it does not use the insulin well. Which means too much glucose remains in your blood, you have high blood glucose levels. Plus not enough glucose reaches your cells to give you energy.
