The contraceptive injection (Depo-Provera, Sayana Press or Noristerat) releases the hormone progestogen into your bloodstream to prevent pregnancy.
Depo-Provera is the most commonly given contraceptive injection in the UK. It lasts for 13 weeks. Noristerat is used less often, it has a shorter 8 week duration of action.
Sayana Press also lasts 13 weeks, it is a newer contraceptive injection, and came into it’s own during Covid as it can be self-administered at home.
Please see information on the pros and cons of the contraceptive injection, who it is suitable for and how it works.
